NIFF is blessed with a combination of factors that make it special; it's held, of course, in the beautiful seaside resort city of Newport, which boasts architecture ranging from early colonial simplicity to the baroque and ornate opulence of oceanfront mansions built by captains of industry at the turn of the 20th century.

It also can take pride in its timing: Early June, before the tourist hordes and summer heat arrive. And, perhaps best of all for film-lovers, it's a small and intimate festival, where directors and actors are always rubbing elbows with moviegoers.
